Damian Hoo on padel court

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: DAMIAN HOO

Meet Damian Hoo

Damian first discovered padel in mid-2022 at Jungle Padel Pererenan in Bali, joining friends from his Australian Football team for relaxed social games and small leagues. At the time, it was the only padel court there, and word spread quickly about this new sport. When Damian later moved to Jakarta, the scene was still small – just one court and a tight-knit but highly committed group of mid-level and advanced players. Since then, he’s competed in tournaments across Thailand, Australia, Bali, and Jakarta, with a clear ambition to begin his padel coaching journey this year.

Social Media Account Origins

2026 marks the fifth anniversary of Damian’s social media journey (see @hoointheworld – 160K+ followers, and he recently launched a padel account: @hoo_padel). His passion for content creation began during Covid while living in Singapore, before eventually leading him to Bali. What started as a creative outlet evolved into a platform focused on sharing a foreigner’s perspective on life in Indonesia. Across all his content, Damian’s mission has remained consistent: to entertain, to teach, and to honestly highlight both the highs and lows of his experiences. Above all, he values connection, sharing global perspectives and encouraging thoughtful conversation with his community.

Getting Involved

Damian is fully committed to becoming a padel coach in 2026 while continuing to play as much as possible in Jakarta. His goal is to eventually join a club where he can offer lessons, but for now, he welcomes people to follow along, reach out for games, and collaborate. Damian is open to working with padel brands, players, coaches, and anyone who shares a genuine interest in the sport. Just drop him a message on Instagram.

Community Reflections

For Damian, the most rewarding part of padel has been learning to give everything – even when results don’t go your way. One recent tournament in Bali saw him competing in the Gold Division, winning only one match but progressing to the round of 16 thanks to multiple close losses. It reinforced a philosophy he strongly believes in: padel mirrors life. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn through loss.

Plans for 2026

In the near future, Damian is excited to lay the foundations for his coaching journey (excited to see this take shape!). His longer-term vision is to build a welcoming community of beginner and bronze-level players — people who are curious, motivated, and open to improving their skills and understanding of the game together.

Wishing Damian all the best.
