A family story, brought to Austin

Austin Padel Center belongs to a family-run group with deep roots in racket sports and club development. That journey began in Portugal in the 1980s, when Benno van Veggel first stepped into the industry, and grew into the founding of Racket Center in the 1990s. Over the years, the work evolved from running courts into building sports and lifestyle spaces designed to bring people together – places to play, but also to spend time, connect, and belong.

Padel became a natural extension of that vision. It is social, competitive, and easy to pick up, as we all know. Bringing that experience to Austin felt like the right next step for the team.

The case for indoor

Austin Padel Center is “building something the city has not had yet: a true indoor padel club.” The team emphasised how the indoor element matter more than people expect: there is no wind, no heat, no rescheduling – players can simply show up and play, consistently.

A three-court indoor pop-up has already launched in the same area as the future facility, giving players an early look and a place to start forming the community. According to the team, what sets the club apart is balance: competitive when you want it, and social when you need it. Train hard, play serious matches, or hang out with friends, all in the same space.

We’re building something Austin hasn’t had yet - a true indoor padel club. The indoor piece matters more than people think. You’re not dealing with wind, heat, or rescheduling: you can just show up and play, consistently.

On court and off

The pop-up offers three fully panoramic indoor courts laid with Mondo turf, a premium surface that gives players a top-tier experience. Off court, the space is built for people to stay a while, with a bar, a lounge, and room to relax before or after a match.

The club is designed for everyone, whether you have never picked up a racket, played competitively, or are searching for your next obsession. As the team puts it, the goal is the same for every visitor: “good energy, good people, and an environment that keeps you coming back.”

Community is the focus this year, built through consistent ways to connect: social leagues, tournaments, open play, beginner-friendly events, and partnerships with local Austin brands. The aim is for people to show up, meet others, and feel part of something rather than book a court and leave.

A big focus for us is creating consistent ways for people to connect. That means social leagues, tournaments, open play, beginner-friendly events, and partnerships with local brands in Austin. We want people to feel like they can show up, meet others, and be part of something. Not just book a court and leave.

Looking ahead

For now, the priority is community and a strong foundation. Alongside that, the team is working toward opening its full-scale facility later this year, expanding everything already underway with more courts, more programming, and more space for people to spend time.

That combination, a growing community and a bigger home to hold it, is what the team is most excited about for 2026, and we wish them all the best!
