COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: SUNSET PADEL CLUB
- United Kingdom
 - Jamie Rowe

“I first started playing padel when my gym opened new courts. I decided to give it a go a couple of times, joined a small group coaching session, and before I knew it, I had played 12 days in a row. I was completely hooked.”
Coming from a background in basketball, sport had always been a constant for Junior (founder of Sunset Padel Club). But padel stood out immediately. “It is competitive, social, and easy to pick up. It just clicked with me straight away.”
Building Something Bigger
Sunset Padel Club wasn’t just created to play – it was created to represent. “When I started playing, I did not see many people who looked like me, either ethnically or from a similar socio-economic background. I also spoke to a lot of people who were curious about padel but found it intimidating or did not know how to get started.”
That lack of representation inspired a mission for Junior: to make padel more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone. “I wanted to change that and create a social space where people could meet, learn, and connect. Padel is an amazing vehicle for community and networking, and I wanted Sunset Padel Club to reflect that energy: welcoming, inclusive, and fun.”
What Makes Sunset Special
Every Sunset event is designed to break down barriers and build confidence. “We host events for beginners and improvers, and they tend to sell out very quickly, which has been a real blessing. Each event includes an hour of dedicated coaching to teach people the basics and build their confidence, followed by a beginner-friendly tournament with prizes.”
But it’s not just about sport; it’s about atmosphere. “We also bring in DJs and collaborate with great brands to create a relaxed, uplifting vibe where everyone feels free to enjoy themselves. Everyone is welcome. Whether you have never played before or you are looking to improve your game, there is always a space for you at Sunset.”
The Magic Moment
There’s one part of every event that never fails to move the founder. “My favourite part of every event is right at the start, when the music is playing, people are laughing, and some are picking up a racket for the very first time. I always take a moment to pause and take it all in. It is the one time I can really see the impact we are having: people connecting, smiling, and realising they belong here. That moment never gets old.”
You might have to label this moment the Sunrise – what do you think, Junior?
What’s Next
As 2026 approaches, Sunset Padel Club is preparing to take its mission further. “We are focused on growing strategically, working with more partners who share our vision, expanding our events, and finding new ways for people to connect beyond the court.”
One project in particular captures that vision: “I’m especially excited about hosting a retreat – something immersive that combines padel, community, and culture in one experience.”
Sunset Padel Club shows that padel is more than a game — it’s a gateway to connection, belonging, and joy.
We wish Junior and Sunset Padel Club all the best – and hope we can get a game in together in Barcelona or elsewhere!
