CLUB SPOTLIGHT:
CAVE PADEL
- Stockholm, Switzerland
- Jamie Rowe
It started as a simple idea among four friends — and a joke that went a little too far. Back in 2020, finding a padel court in central Stockholm was almost impossible unless you fancied a midnight game midweek. All four founders worked in real estate, and one day someone said the words that changed everything:
“Why don’t we just build our own?”
That thought led to Cave Padel, one of the most unique padel clubs in the world — literally built inside a mountain.
The Origin Story: Why Build a Padel Court in a Cave?
When the founders toured “Bergrumsgaraget” in Liljeholmen — a vast underground garage carved out of solid rock — they stumbled upon a cavern almost 18 meters high.
“Someone joked, ‘Imagine putting a padel court in here.’ We all laughed, then we stopped laughing, and then we said, ‘Wait, could we actually?’”
That moment sparked a frenzy of sketches, measurements, and calculations in their group chat. By the next morning, they had reached out to the garage owner, who — against all odds — didn’t think they were crazy.
Two years and countless engineering challenges later, Cave Padel became a reality: a full-sized padel court built inside a massive steel box, suspended nine meters above the garage floor, where cars still roll beneath.
“We didn’t just think outside the box — we literally built one.”
The Experience: Padel Inside a Mountain
Playing at Cave Padel is unlike anything else. The club is fully digital and unmanned — everything from booking to lighting to entry is automated. You simply book online, receive your code, and step into your private underground court.
There’s just one court, meaning every match is completely private. It’s just you, your friends, and the sound of your rallies echoing off solid rock. The space includes a lounge, changing rooms, restrooms, and a small “trust shop” stocked with snacks, drinks, balls, and grips — no staff, no checkout, just honesty.
Being inside a garage also has its perks: you can drive right up to the court and park a few steps away. The club is open daily from 06:00 to 23:00.
“Cave Padel is all about simplicity, creativity, and a touch of madness — a place where you can play the sport you love in a setting you’ll never forget.”
Community: A Club Built on Trust and Passion
Despite being literally underground, Cave Padel has a thriving community. Many local players have been with them since day one, and nearby companies regularly book weekly sessions.
“Since we only have one court, we get to know many of our players. It’s all about keeping things personal and easygoing.”
The team listens to their community — whether it’s adding more sand, bringing in preferred balls, or adjusting lighting. Every detail is shaped by the people who play there.
At its core, Cave Padel is built on trust — from the honesty shop to the shared respect among players.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Cave Padel?
When Sweden’s padel boom cooled, many clubs struggled — but Cave Padel thrived by being truly unique and community-driven.
“Our success has always come down to the people who play here, our local heroes who keep the court alive every day.”
As for the future? Another cave isn’t easy to find in Stockholm — but the founders aren’t ruling anything out.
“If anyone happens to be sitting on an empty cave and wondering what to do with it, you know where to find us.”
