From Tennis Court to Padel Court
Harry Blundell picked up a tennis racket at four years old and spent the best part of two decades devoted to the sport. That changed around four years ago when he stepped onto a padel court for the first time.
What started as a casual introduction quickly became an obsession. Harry found himself playing more padel than tennis, until the two began to conflict. Rather than split his focus, he made a decisive call: tennis had to go. “It was affecting my padel,” he says. From that point, the commitment was total – developing his own game while channelling his coaching experience into helping others discover the sport in the UK.
Coaching Philosophy
Harry’s approach to coaching is built on fundamentals and smart decision-making rather than power or flair. For beginners, the message is clear: keep the ball in play. Build consistency before worrying about anything else (yes, the backhand tap-out can wait), and let solid foundations do the heavy lifting early on.
For intermediate players, the focus shifts to what happens at the net – positioning, decision-making, and court awareness. These are the elements that separate competent players from effective ones. As Harry puts it, “Smart court positioning wins more points than flashy shots.”
"Focus on consistency over power, keep the ball in play and build good fundamentals first."
– Harry Blundell
Building Community at Connect Padel Birmingham
Harry coaches at Connect Padel Birmingham, where the emphasis extends well beyond technique. The venue runs regular social sessions designed to make padel feel welcoming and accessible rather than purely competitive. Group coaching sits alongside weekly Americanos, giving players a structured mix of learning and healthy competition.
For coaches looking to grow their presence online, Harry keeps the advice simple: focus each video on solving one clear problem and post consistently. Practical tips that people can take straight onto court will always outperform overproduced content.
Looking Ahead
Harry’s sights are set on becoming an established name in the Birmingham padel scene. His priority is helping Connect Padel grow while playing a broader role in expanding the sport across the UK. Building partnerships and connecting more players sit at the top of the agenda – contributing to the continued momentum padel is carrying into the year ahead.
