About Matt (aka The London Padel Coach)
Matt’s padel journey began years ago on holiday in Argentina – barefoot, on a sandy old court with original concrete walls. It was there that he fell in love with the sport. Back in London at the time, padel simply didn’t exist in a public form, so his obsession was kept alive through annual trips back to Argentina (where padel is the second most played sport after football).
With a strong sporting background in both football and tennis, Matt originally planned to pursue a professional career after attending sports university. A serious injury cut that dream short – cue the classic line Matt said he loves to use: “I could have gone pro if it wasn’t for me knee.”
Coaching became the natural next step, and when padel finally started gaining momentum in the UK, Matt completed his Padel MBA coaching qualification and never looked back.
Coach Insights – Tips For Beginners
Learn basic court positions and tactics as early as possible. Most points aren’t lost because of spectacular winners – they’re lost because of poor positioning. “You will quickly begin to see that most points you lose are not because someone is smashing the ball past you, but that you’re just standing in the wrong position on court,” Matt told us. Understanding simple tactics will immediately help you win more points and enjoy the game more.
Advice For Producing Coaching Content
Do what makes you laugh. Do what you genuinely enjoy. If you start chasing likes with content that isn’t authentic, it quickly becomes a chore — and that’s when passion fades. Enjoy the process, and growth will follow naturally.
Community
For Matt, padel is just as much about what happens off the court as on it. Early on in London, he noticed players finishing matches and heading straight for the tube — something that felt completely at odds with his experiences in Argentina.
Spending time getting to know partners and opponents builds stronger on-court chemistry, but more importantly, it grows real community. Those conversations lead to introductions, new games, and a network that expands faster than you expect.
Looking Ahead
2026 is set to be a big year for Matt. Alongside coaching and running events in London, Matt will be travelling across Europe and beyond, coaching on padel holidays and meeting players from all over the world.
One thing’s guaranteed: whether on or off the court, he plans to make every experience unforgettable!
