About Sam
We had the pleasure of meeting Sam at Padel Box Bermondsey and chatting padel over a good coffee. Sam’s journey into padel was different from most. After a knee injury while skiing, he was searching for a sport he could enjoy post-surgery. With a background in tennis and squash – and hockey as his main sport – padel was the one game that felt comfortable physically. From his very first sessions, he was hooked. Soon after, Sam began working in padel, and his passion for the sport continues to grow.
Coach Insights
His advice to beginners is simple: get involved in socials. They’re the fastest way to improve, as you meet and play with different people, often more experienced than you. Sam stresses that socials aren’t just for intermediate players (which is a common misconception) – everyone starts somewhere, and the community remembers that! It’s the best way to build confidence and speed up your learning.
How To Build A Padel Community
At Padel Box Bermondsey, Sam and the team focus on creating opportunities for players of all levels to get involved, through socials, structured coaching, and community tournaments. Their goal isn’t just to provide casual matches, but to foster the excitement of competition and the camaraderie that comes from playing regularly. In London, the emphasis has been on keeping padel accessible and inclusive, ensuring that everyone feels part of the journey as the sport continues to grow from strength to strength.
Looking Ahead
Sam’s priority is to keep growing the sport and getting more people involved. Sam told us:
I’m particularly excited about bringing more young players into padel – if we can engage the next generation, we can secure the long-term future of the game. Watching that youth pathway develop is something I’m really looking forward to.
We wish him all the best and hoping we can get a game in together next time!
